Canadian banks and casino deposits

Short answer: Interac e-Transfer works at every bank below, within your bank's sending limit. Credit cards are a different story. Every big bank that names casino charges in its cardholder agreement treats them as a cash advance, which means a fee and interest from the day you deposit. Several banks also say they may block internet gambling transactions outright.

Below is what each bank's own terms say. Where a bank does not publish a number, we say so instead of guessing.

What this means in practice

Use Interac e-Transfer first

It is the deposit method Canadian casinos support most, and none of the banks above say they block it for gambling. Your daily limit is the ceiling, not a target. Our Interac e-Transfer guide covers deposits, withdrawals, Autodeposit and fees step by step.

Think twice before using a credit card

A cash advance usually costs a fee plus interest from the day of the deposit, with no grace period. A $100 deposit can cost more than $100 before you have played a single spin. Some banks decline these charges altogether, so a card deposit can also simply fail.

Never borrow to gamble

If you are reaching for a credit card because your chequing account is empty, that is a good moment to stop. Free, confidential help lines for every province we cover are listed on our responsible gambling page.

Debit cards work online at most banks

Casinos accept them less often than Interac e-Transfer, and some bank agreements (Tangerine, EQ Bank) reserve the right to block gambling on those cards too.

If your bank declines a casino payment

A decline usually comes from your bank's rules, not from the casino. Card networks tag casino payments with a gambling merchant code (7995), and a bank that blocks gambling on its credit cards declines anything carrying that code. Do not retry the same card again and again: repeated declines can trigger a fraud hold that lasts until you call the bank. Check your bank's row in the table above, then switch to Interac e-Transfer or a debit card if your bank allows them. If the problem is an e-Transfer limit instead, that limit is set by your bank and your account plan, and your online banking shows how much you can still send today.
